About Barry

I have been a practicing dentist in New Jersey since 1973.  I still practice, and pride myself in staying with a core comprehensive philosophy during all of these years.  I never wavered from giving my patients the very best of my care, no matter the current economic conditions.  I have studied with the very best and spent years developing a philosophical approach to dental practice.  My philosophy encompasses both the hard technical side of practice as well as the softer behavioral side.  It is a blend of business, and life management.

I am the author of the best selling book, The Art of the Examination.  I am the founder and publisher of the popular newsletter, Private Practice.  This website will act as an alternative to that newsletter for its many fans.

I am Visiting Faculty at The Pankey Institute. Currently, I practice clinical dentistry, I speak on practice management, patient communication and philosophy of practice.  I continue to write for many dental publications (Dental Economics).

My latest endeavor is the creation of Niche Dental Studio with my son, Joshua Polansky.  Niche is a different type of dental laboratory.  Not only do we provide the very best dental work in the form of crowns, veneers and implants – but we are committed to the success and happiness of every one of our clients.  We provide deep understanding of the “process” of dental success through our writings, discussion groups and telephone consultations.  My son and I are always available to discuss your cases–and your life.

Our PROJECT:

The TAO of dentistry is your website.  Its purpose is to help dentists to create their own philosophy of dental practice.  Although this is a dental site, it can be used by any business because business philosophy is quite generic.  Dentistry is the technical part of the philosophy but just about any technician could use the philosophy.  I am the author of The Art of the Examination, a book written for the dental community on the all important process of patient examination, diagnosis, treatment planning and case presentation.  This site is meant to be interactive.  It is based on my new project- The TAO of Dentistry.  Please leave your comments – together we will create a sort of guidebook for dental practices.  This is unique to the dental profession.

The book will be written as “posts” on a weekly basis.  You can think about the ideas and add your comments.  If your ideas are worthy they will be placed in the book.  At the end of the project you will be able to download the completed project.  Thank you for your support and please tell others about this interactive project.  Let’s do our best to help the dental community.
